Mohammad Gorjestani fled to San Jose, CA at the age of four in the midst of the Iran/Iraq war. Many of the ideas and themes he explores in his work are born out of the grit of the immigrant experience, while growing up surrounded by Silicon Valley. Based out of San Francisco, Gorjestani has directed spots and short films for brands that include Airbnb, Square and Pinterest.
Gorjestani’s short film for Square, “Yassin Falafel” was a Tribeca X Award finalist and three-time Webby Award winner. His “Love is Welcome Here” spot for Airbnb was also honored with a Webby. Five of Gorjestani’s projects have been selected as Vimeo Staff Picks, he is a two-time San Francisco Film Society Grant Winner, and his films “Refuge” and “Miss Me: The Artful Vandal” were SXSW Official Selections. He was selected as a “New Face of Indie Film” by SOMA Magazine, and as one of Filmmaker Magazine’s “25 New Faces of Independent Film.”
