As part of our ongoing relationship with the Climate Reality Project, we aim to respond to important climate-related news in real time. Most recently, we created a spot in response to the leak of Heartland Institute memos that exposed their plans to infiltrate K-12 science education with misinformation about climate change. We aimed to launch a creative response within just a few days of the leak as part of a petition campaign to help make sure that America’s science classes aren’t for sale.
How could germs be real if we can’t see them? The world is flat.
The resulting satirical video compares climate science denial with other “sciency” claims we could teach our children in school.
Released just a few days after the leak, the film was seen nearly 500,000 times and helped raise awareness of the petition. Heartland’s corporate sponsors almost immediately began rescinding funding of their education initiative.
This film was conceived, produced and edited over a weekend.
