After his friend and collaborator Jonathan Harris completed his year long “ritual of taking one photo each day and posting it online,” Scott Thrift took it upon himself to produce a short film that explored and contextualized the experiment, focusing mainly on the motivation behind Jonathan’s project.
Scott and Jonathan’s collaborations date back a number or years, including their work together for the MOMA exhibit I FEEL FINE and Scott’s continued storytelling experiments on Jonathan’s Cowbird platform.
TODAY places Jonathan’s photography front and center, and as each day is represented in one second’s time, a natural rhythm develops.
The deeply personal interview that underscores the images speaks to the friendship of the duo and their combined quest to understand life through the creation of art.
This breathtaking film received a Staff Pick designation on VIMEO and hundreds of thousands of organic views. It was featured on Creativity, PSFK and BrainPickings: “Our friends from m ss ng p eces — you remember them, right? — are back with another lovely documentary, capturing the project and the vivid, earnest curiosity with which Harris approaches the world.”
