Mohammad Gorjestani was born in Tehran, Iran and immigrated to the San Jose, CA during the height of Iran-Iraq War. He works across narrative, music video, and documentary projects that explore narratives of underserved, unseen, and marginalized characters and worlds. In 2014, his near-future drama “Refuge” screened at the Tribeca and SXSW Film Festival, earning him a place on Filmmaker Magazine’s 25 New Faces of Independent Film. He has earned 8 Vimeo Staff Picks for his short films and has been featured by CNN, The Guardian, and The Atlantic. In 2018, he won the Tribeca X Award for his film “Sister Hearts” that explored the theme of incarcerated women. Other accolades include 4 Webby Awards, a Clio Award, D&AD Award, and a 2x recipient of the coveted KRF Filmmaking Grant from the San Francisco Society. He is currently in development of his first feature film. Mohammad is based in San Francisco, and available globally.
