For eight years, Ron DeSantis treated the climate crisis like a myth, capping off his tenure with HB 1645, a bill that scrubbed "climate change" from state law, axed clean energy goals, and prioritized gas pipelines while Florida flooded.

Ahead of the midterms, 350 Action wasn’t going to let that level of denial go unanswered.  So we set out to put those policies to the ultimate test.

"Was the statue waving or just trying to block it's eyes from the hot hot sun..."

Rachel Maddow

We created a life-sized statue of DeSantis cast entirely in solid gallium—a metal with a melting point of just 85.6°F. With an unveiling ceremony in Tallahassee under scorching temperatures, it didn't take long for physics to take over. Under a heat threshold his own policies will only make more common, the governor’s likeness liquefied in real time.

While the statue melted into a puddle, the installation caught fire online, earning international news coverage and prime-time commentary from TV news hosts like Rachel Maddow.

"DENIAL" challenged voters with a clear, unforgettable visual: if politicians refuse to face the heat, it’s time to deny them back at the ballot box.
